Nikau Valley Restoration Society

The Nikau Valley Restoration Society was established with the objective of building a community to support and enrich Nikau Valley’s abundant natural flora and fauna through pest control and native restoration of forest scenic reserve, wetlands and streams.

Our Thursday morning work group get together most weeks to plant throughout the season and in between times keep up the maintenance and preparation for future work.

We have a dedicated team of trappers who started predator trapping in the valley in 2018. Although we catch all sorts, we have redesigned the grid and grown the trap network to focus on stoats, thereby complementing the annual possum/rat control undertaken by DOC.

We’re covering about 250 hectares of reserve and nearby covenants and we’ve extended that trap network across parts of the residential area in the valley.
