The Friends of the Ōtaki River (FOTOR) is a community group involved in a range of activities, including restoring areas of the Otaki River corridor, native tree planting, and investing in traps.

The group reduces weeds and pests, as well as encourages research, protects historic features and encourages low-impact recreation.

Kāpiti Kiwi are trapping 1,000ha of the Akatarawa Regional Park with the intent to bring kiwi back in 3-5 years.

Focused on planting, weeding and pest control along the coastal strip between Paekākāriki and Pukerua Bay.

Supporting and enriching Nikau Valley’s natural flora and fauna through pest control and native restoration of forest scenic reserve, wetlands and streams.

Working in both Ōtaki town and the rural surrounds, this new group is working towards building a strong trap network.

Predator Free Paekākāriki supports community involvement in backyard trapping by providing traps, peanut butter bait, educational resources, and a strong support network.

Focused on working towards being predator-free as a community. This includes addressing vermin, possums, stoats, and weasels. 

Predator Free Te Horo is a volunteer group working across the Hautere Plains and communities of Te Horo Beach and Te Horo village to meet the ambitions of Predator Free 2050.

A community-driven initiative led by the Waikanae Lions Club.  The mission of their volunteers is to bring back the birds — every rat caught makes room for a bird.

Ringa Manaaki o Hemi Matenga is a collective that gives the koha of their time and passion for the beautiful area that includes the Hemi Matenga Scenic Reserve. 

Te Wharemauku Awa Rōpū  is a community group formed to help bring people, projects and plans together around a shared vision for a thriving, healthy Wharemauku Awa. 

Undertakes trapping, weeding and planting in the Waikanae Estuary, supporting an area of approx. 80 hectares on both sides of the river.

The Guardians trap, plant and build tracks in the Whareroa Farm, a 438 hectare block near Mackays Crossing.
